BZBGEAR ePTZ cameras leverage high resolution sensors to deliver a crystal clear image as well as smooth, responsive camera control without moving parts. With some cameras boasting features like auto framing and subject tracking, these cameras can automatically adjust to keep subjects centered and properly framed, which helps to improve production quality and user experience.
ePTZ cameras shine thanks to their design which results in simplicity and reliability, offering seamless USB and HDMI connectivity, which makes them ideal for plug and play applications across conferencing platforms and streaming software. With fewer mechanical components, they can also have increased long term durability and reduced maintenance requirements.
What is an ePTZ Camera?
An ePTZ (or electronic pan tilt and zoom) camera uses digital cropping and moving to simulate camera movement. This differs from a normal PTZ camera as they rely on physical motors and optical zoom to produce the movement and camera adjustment. This means that the camera can get a similar effect as a regular PTZ camera however it does require digital zooming to do so. Since ePTZ cameras do not rely on any mechanical movements, this makes them ideal for environments where quiet operation, minimal setup, and reliability are something that are being considered.

Use Cases for ePTZ Cameras
ePTZ cameras are perfect for applications that require flexibility, automation, and ease of use without the complexity of traditional PTZ systems.
ePTZ Cameras for Conferencing
Auto-framing: Automatically detects and frames participants for a polished meeting experience.
Wide coverage: Capture multiple people within a single field of view without manual adjustment.
Plug-and-play connectivity: USB integration makes setup quick and simple for platforms like Zoom and Teams.
ePTZ Cameras for Education
Instructor tracking: Keep educators in frame as they move throughout the classroom.
Hands-free operation: Reduce the need for camera operators with automated framing features.
Enhanced engagement: Deliver clearer, more dynamic lessons for in-person and remote students.
ePTZ Cameras for Content Creation
Compact design: Ideal for small studios, desks, or mobile setups.
Flexible framing: Digitally zoom and reframe shots without repositioning the camera.
High-resolution output: 4K sensors ensure image clarity even when digitally zooming.
Key Features of ePTZ Cameras
ePTZ cameras and PTZ cameras are capable of the same gross movements, but how they accomplish them is very different. When you look at a mechanical PTZ, the camera itself is doing the panning, tilting, and it zooms utilizing an optical lens setup. However when it comes to an ePTZ, it accomplishes all of that through digital cropping.
This depends on the model of camera, but for example our BG-MAESTRO allows you to set the parameters yourself. You will create the area that you would like to have it look for people to frame and it will go ahead and frame and track them.
For a classroom environment we would recommend our BG-EPTZ-AF ePTZ. This camera is affordable, fairly small and will auto frame and track the educator which means more time spent on teaching and less time worrying about whether or not the camera is doing the proper thing.
Yes both of our ePTZ models have the ability to be run on tripods. They can also be mounted on top of a monitor utilizing the built-in adjustable mount that is in the body.
Having a higher quality image is very important when it comes to utilizing an ePTZ. Since ePTZs don’t mechanically pan, tilt or zoom they are reliant on digital cropping to perform all of these actions. That means you are enlarging the pixels when you are zooming, so when you have a more pixel dense image (4K vs 1080p) you will have a less noticeable loss in quality.
This will depend on your needs and use case. ePTZs won’t be as cheap as webcams but they offer benefits that traditional webcams don’t, especially for educators and small conference rooms. If you are an educator and need to be able to record digital lessons or stream to students then an ePTZ allows you to move around and zoom in on important details that you wouldn’t be able to with a webcam. The same applies to conference rooms where you might need to cover more than one person with the camera.
Yes, for example our BG-EPTZ-UH4K allows you to control it through the included IR remote. This makes it the go to if you’re looking for a small compact ePTZ that allows for manual control.
ePTZ cameras can be more reliable long term because there is no motor or moving assembly to burn out or wear down over time. However it does come with the trade off that you are trading some image quality to perform the PTZ functions.
Our BG-EPTZ-AF is limited by how many people you can fit in frame! It will be able to detect everyone within a 120 degree field of view and then auto-frame to include everyone in the image while providing a nicely centered image.
