Versatile Network Switches
What is a network switch?
A network switch is a piece of hardware that allows devices in a network to connect and communicate with each other. Users can choose between managed and unmanaged network switches. An unmanaged network switch is designed to be simplistic and run out of the box. The downside to this is that users will not be able to manage the settings or fine tune control of their network. A managed network switch lets users manage, configure, and monitor the network in a variety of ways. For instance, a user can configure a port to have a certain VLAN or virtual network to control or segregate traffic.
Users will want an unmanaged switch if they just need multiple devices to communicate to one another and can have their IP manually controlled on the device itself such as a controller and a few PTZ cameras. However, an unmanaged switch would not be good for running multiple networks or running something that needs specific settings enabled such as an AV over IP system. Network Switches Explained
Network switches provide additional points of connection for your local network. They can also provide power for devices like cameras and joystick controllers. When you connect your PTZ cameras and joystick controller to a network switcher, they will be able to communicate with each other after configuring their network settings to be on the same subnet. This will enable your joystick to control the cameras that are connected to the network switch. You can also use a network switch to build a highly functional AV over IP system. For those who aren’t pro AV experts, you can also use network switches for home projects such as connecting gaming consoles, computers, printers etc. to a hardwire internet connection. Our knowledgeable sales and support staff are here to help if you have any questions but it is recommended to consult with your network administrator for any advanced compatibility and configuration needs.
