What is AV-over-IP?
AV-over-IP (Audio Visual over Internet Protocol) refers to a system that transmits both audio and video over the network. AVoIP is typically comprised of HDMI transmitters, HDMI receivers, and a hub or control box that facilitates management over the AVoIP system.
AV over IP systems transmits HDMI signals over ethernet cables, typically category 5e/6/6a/7, allowing for longer cable runs and faster signal transmission.
Audio/video over IP solutions can be implemented to replace existing HDMI video matrix systems, video wall systems, and other professional video systems.
Key features include 4K@60Hz HDR and 8K@60Hz options, PoE support, video matrixing, and customizable video walls, making them ideal for commercial, educational, residential, and corporate applications. With an intuitive web interface and an iOS app, these systems offer Ultra HD support, KVM extension, and advanced control protocols, ensuring minimal latency and optimal performance.
What are the Benefits
of AV-over-IP?
How Secure is AV-over-IP?
BZBGEAR AV over IP is safe and secure, with HDCP 2.2/2.3 (High Definition Content Protection) compatibility, password-protected interfaces, and quality mounting kits.
Our audio/video over IP solutions also offer advanced IP configuration for all components of the systems, ensuring users can keep systems private and further protect their content.
How AV-over-IP Works
2. HDMI Video Receiver
3. Control Box (AVoIP Hub)
4. Network Switch (preferably PoE-enabled)
2. Video Source: Connect the Transmitter.
3. CAT Cable: Transmit power, video, audio, and control signals to the Receiver.
4. Display: Connect the Receiver.
Differences Between
Traditional AV and AVoIP
Traditional AV
Traditional AV distribution equipment facilitates direct connection from the sources, to the AV device, to the displays, with a set amount of inputs and outputs available. Tradition AV devices also typically have a single purpose, whether it’s single cable HDMI switching, HDMI matrixing, or video walls. Overall, traditional AV equipment is great for getting the job done but does not offer the same amount of scalability and flexibility as audio/video over IP.
- Direct connections
- Single-purpose devices
- Limited by cable length.
Audio/Video over IP
AV over IP solutions on the other hand enables users to route HDMI sources from any of their HDMI transmitters to any of their HDMI receivers which output to the user’s displays. BZBGEAR audio/video over IP solutions also offer PoE functionality, which enables units to be powered and connected to the network via single cable ethernet installations. Additionally, AVoIP systems allow users to apply more transmitters and receivers in the future, offering a great deal of flexibility and cost savings in the long run. With BZBGEAR audio/video over IP solutions, users also enjoy added features such as video wall support, KVM, and app-based management.
- Flexible routing of HDMI sources
- Scalable
- Supports longer cable runs, and offers multi-functional features.
AVoIP Standards
Audio/video over IP involves various standards, technologies, and interfaces for transmitting video, audio, control, and data signals over networks, commonly used in AV, professional audio, and security applications. Interoperability between brands offers more choices, better costs, innovation, and sustainability.
This interoperability is achieved when manufacturers adopt standards developed by technology alliances or creators of open-license standards. However, many manufacturers develop proprietary over-IP platforms and standards due to the high cost of licensed platforms, leading to limited or no compatibility with third-party IP devices.
Fortunately, BZBGEAR's audio/video over IP solutions utilize technologies that ensure interoperability with third-party systems. When selecting an audio/video over IP solution, it is crucial to consider whether the VoIP and audio over IP standards are compatible with existing systems.
