What is Dante AV-H?

Dante stands for digital audio network through ethernet. Dante AV-H by Audinate is one of the leading network based production standards in the AV over IP space. Dante AV-H technology will enable users to stream their camera footage over a local area network with a single ethernet cable. Dante AV-H uses H.26x compression to compress the bandwidth of a camera's video feed to allow it to stream over a local area network with near zero latency. The H.26x compression standard also provides a high image quality up to YUV 4:4:4 and low latency with 100% audio/visual synchronization. For protection of the user's content, Dante AV-H is HDCP compliant.

With Dante AV-H, users will also be able to transmit and receive audio and video over their network. Furthermore, with the Dante controller, control for both audio and video will be unified. Users will then be able to control all sources from one screen.

Why use Dante AV-H

The integration of Dante AV-H technology in the BG-STREAM-E offers a range of remarkable advantages. Developed by Audinate, Dante AV-H facilitates seamless video streaming over a single Ethernet cable, ensuring high-quality, low-latency transmission with H.26x compression for exceptional image quality and synchronized audiovisual experience. Its capability to transmit and receive both audio and video over the network simplifies workflows, further enhanced by the unified control provided by the Dante controller. With HDCP compliance for content protection, the BG-STREAM-E maximizes the potential of Dante AV-H, delivering unparalleled user convenience, top-notch image quality, and streamlined control in a cutting-edge AV solution.

Dante AV-H Ready

This device is Dante AV-H ready, meaning it includes the necessary integration to support Audinate’s Dante AV-H software-based video-over-IP protocol.

Activation is completed via a license purchased through the Audinate website, after which Dante AV-H functionality becomes fully available. Once enabled, the unit can transmit and receive H.264/H.265 video streams with precise Dante clock synchronization, ensuring audio and video remain perfectly aligned across the network. This allows the product to operate as part of a standard Dante environment, delivering scalable, low-latency AV-over-IP without requiring dedicated hardware codecs.

What is NDI?

Network Device Interface (NDI) is a high performance AV over IP standard that allows anyone to use real time, ultra low latency video on existing IP video networks. The NDI open protocol enables professionals to share video through a local area network (LAN) with video-compatible devices. With a single ethernet cable connection, professionals can merge all stages of production from start to finish. That way, all production tasks and processes will be united, so accomplishing a creative vision will be simple. With the NDI 5.5 tool-kit, users will also be able to connect any audio device as an NDI source with NDI’s Audio Direct tool. This adds audio over IP to NDI’s revolution.

What is NDI|HX3?

NDI|HX3 is an updated version of the HX2 standard. The difference is, HX3 provides a better image quality and lower latency than HX2. NDI|HX3 also uses slightly more bandwidth than NDI|HX2, but the increase in bandwidth is not significant enough to be an issue. There are a limited amount of NDI|HX3 compliant devices due to a hardware limitation most NDI|HX2 compliant devices have. Overall, NDI|HX3 is the latest update to the standard and offers the best features. Learn more
