How does an Audio Converter Work?
An audio converter functions by extracting or converting audio signals from an HDMI source, such as a Blu-ray player, gaming console, or streaming device, and transmitting the audio to an external sound system, amplifier, or soundbar. When the HDMI signal reaches the converter, it carries both audio and video data. The converter receives this signal through its HDMI input port and then separates (or de-embeds) the audio from the HDMI stream.
Depending on the model, the extracted audio can be output in various formats, such as S/PDIF (optical) for digital audio, L/R analog (RCA) for older audio systems, or via eARC/ARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) for compatible soundbars or amplifiers. After extraction, the converter processes the audio signal to ensure compatibility with the connected audio device.
Whether you need to connect an amplifier, soundbar, or external audio system, these converters enable easy integration with eARC/ARC functionality, support for S/PDIF and analog audio outputs, and advanced audio standards like Dolby Atmos and DTS: X. Perfect for achieving immersive soundscapes without compromising video quality.
