How to Reset a Matrix Switcher When the Web GUI Password Isn’t Working

Trevon Martin • June 19, 2026

If you’re unable to log into the Web GUI of a matrix switcher due to an incorrect or unknown password, the device can still be reset using either network communication or RS-232, depending on its accessibility.

Option 1: Reset via Network (Device Still Reachable)

Use this method if the matrix switcher is still accessible on the network.

Step 1: Verify Network Access

Confirm the device is reachable by checking one or more of the following:

  • Web GUI loads (even if login fails)
  • Successful ping to the device’s IP address
  • Device appears in network scan tools

Step 2: Install a Communication Utility

Download and install a terminal application that supports Telnet or TCP/IP communication, such as:

  • PuTTY

Step 3: Obtain the Device API Commands

  • Refer to the product manual for the API or control command list
  • If not available, request the API documentation from technical support

Step 4: Connect and Send the Reset Command

  • Open a Telnet or TCP/IP session to the device
  • Send the factory reset or password reset command as defined in the API

Required Information for Network Connection

  • Device IP address
  • Telnet port number or TCP/IP port number
  • Reset command syntax from the API documentation

Option 2: Reset via RS-232 (Device Not Reachable on Network)

Use this method if the device is no longer accessible over the network.

Step 1: Connect via RS-232

  • Connect a serial cable between the matrix switcher and your PC
  • Use a USB-to-RS-232 adapter if your computer does not have a serial port

Step 2: Install a Serial Communication Tool

Download and install a serial terminal application, such as:

  • Docklight
  • PuTTY (Serial mode)
  • Tera Term

Step 3: Obtain the Device API Commands

  • Check the product manual for RS-232 control commands
  • If unavailable, request the command set from technical support

Step 4: Connect and Send the Reset Command

  • Configure the serial connection using the device’s communication settings
  • Send the reset command as defined in the API

Required Information for RS-232 Connection

  • Baud rate
  • Data bits
  • Stop bits
  • Parity (check bit)
  • COM port number (assigned after cable connection)

After the Reset

  • The matrix switcher will return to factory default settings
  • Network configuration and credentials may be reset
  • Reconfigure the device and set a new Web GUI password

Notes

  • Always use the official API commands for the specific model
  • Contact technical support if the device does not respond to reset commands
