How to Find a Lost IP Address
Losing the IP address of a device can happen due to sudden changes in network settings, modifications in routers or internet providers, or even a device reset. If you find yourself in this situation, use these methods to locate the lost IP address. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps required to find your device's IP address on your network.
What You’ll Need:
- A Windows laptop or PC with access to the network to which the device was previously connected, and the flexibility to make network changes.
Methods to Find a Lost IP Address:
1. Using the Advanced IP Scanner Tool
One of the most straightforward methods to locate a device's IP address is by performing a full scan of all the IP addresses on your network. The Advanced IP Scanner is a popular and free tool that makes this process easy.
Steps to Use Advanced IP Scanner:
- Download and Install: Start by downloading the Advanced IP Scanner on your laptop or PC.
- Set the IP Range: After installation, launch the tool. Set the appropriate IP range for your network. For example, if your network is 192.168.20.***, set the range to 192.168.20.1-254.
- Start the Scan: Initiate the scan. The tool will display a list of all active devices on your network along with their IP addresses. Tip: You can also locate the device by its Mac Address if it isn't showing up by name or manufacturer in the tool.
Troubleshooting:
- If you’re unable to find your device using the initial scan, and you suspect the device may have reverted to its default IP settings, try the following:
- Temporarily change the IP address of your laptop or PC to match the default IP range of the device.
- Use the Advanced IP Scanner to scan within this default range.
- Check if the device appears with its default IP address.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully locate the lost IP address of your device.
