How to Stream Without a Computer

Streaming without a computer is possible, though some initial setup may require one. Once your devices are configured, you can run the stream independently, without having the PC on or connected. 

A reliable setup for computer free streaming typically includes:

• An HDMI or SDI to IP video encoder
• An IP PTZ camera
• A PoE network switch
• A PTZ joystick controller

For simplicity and reliability, both the camera and joystick controller should be PoE-enabled, allowing them to receive power and network connectivity through a single CAT5/6 Ethernet cable. It’s also highly recommended for the encoder to be PoE-enabled. This setup means you only need a single power source (the PoE switch), and all other devices will both receive power and communicate through the same network.

Initial Setup Using a Computer

You will need a computer temporarily to configure the network:

1. Connect all devices to the PoE switch.
2. Assign IP addresses so all devices are in the same range and can communicate.
3. Configure your encoder with the camera’s stream URL, typically using protocols such as RTSP, RTSP to RTMP, or direct RTMP.

Once the network and streams are properly configured, test the setup:

• Verify that you can view the stream on a PC outside the local network. In other words, just ensure you are disconnected from the network switch when testing. 
• Confirm that the system can stream independently without the computer connected.

After these steps, your system should be fully operational, allowing you to stream without relying on a computer. As long as nothing is reset, you should be able to power down the system and have it continue working normally once power is restored. 

Why This Works

The camera sends video to the encoder, which converts it into a stream that can be watched live. Once set up, the system runs on its own, no computer needed. And since the encoder has the stream link URL for the camera, and the devices are hardwired to the same network, the stream should remain consistent even if the devices need to be powered down and turned on again.
