A scaler converts video signals from one resolution to another. Scalers either increase or decrease the input resolution for video output at the specified format. It can convert a signal from a lower resolution to a higher resolution (e.g., 1080p to 4K); this is called “upscaling.” Conversely, it can convert a higher resolution to a lower one; this is called “downscaling.”
There are many benefits associated with scalers. They automatically scale any input signal to match the resolution of the display. They can output high quality, multiple-resolution VGA video signals. And they are capable of switching between analog and digital sources.
